Electric car road tax
We are still adding models. This list is being expanded.
Electric cars stopped being VED-exempt in April 2025. A new zero-emission car now pays a £10 first-year rate and the standard rate of £200 per year from year 2 onwards. The expensive car supplement applies to zero-emission cars with a list price over £50,000 that were registered on or after 1 April 2025, costing an extra £440 a year for five years from the second tax payment.
Pre-April 2025 EVs were entirely VED-exempt. From April 2025 they pay only the standard rate. The expensive car supplement does not apply to them retrospectively. For the exact wording of the rules see vehicle tax for electric and low-emissions vehicles on gov.uk.
