Cheapest road tax cars

We are still adding models. This list is being expanded.

For a new car, only the first-year rate varies meaningfully. From year 2 onwards every petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric car pays the same standard rate of £200 until the car turns six. So "cheapest to tax" really means "cheapest first-year rate", which is decided by CO2 emissions and fuel type, both set out in the gov.uk rate tables.

Zero-emission electric cars sit at the bottom of the table at £10 in year 1. The lowest-emitting plug-in hybrids follow at £115. Self-charging hybrids and modern small petrols typically land in the £115 to £365 range depending on whether they fall below 50 g/km or above 90 g/km.
